CMS releases statement after Florida school shooting

On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump ordered American flags to be flown at half mast on all public buildings in memory of the shooting victims.

Authorities on Wednesday confirmed that the alleged shooter, 19-year-old former student Nikolas Cruz, had a history of posting "very, very disturbing" content on his social media channels.

WPLG-TV and CBS News have reported that 17-year-old Jamie Guttenberg is among those killed in the shooting.

Shortly after the shooting, Trump took to Twitter to express his "prayers and condolences" for victims of the shooting and their families.

Trump's tweet on Thursday hinged on the theory that more could have been done to prevent a "mentally disturbed" person from carrying out such a violent act.

Sarah Chadwick, a student at Douglas High School who survived the shooting, responded.

Schreiber knew little of that as he and 60 of his classmates huddled shoulder-to-shoulder behind a desk.

Authorities say Cruz arrived to the school of about 3,000 students heavily armed before pulling the fire alarm in what cops reportedly believe was a bid to increase his kill count.

"The president will address the nation on the tragic shooting in Parkland, FL at 11am", White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said. Cruz and her husband, who died of a heart attack several years ago, adopted Nikolas and his biological brother, Zachary, after the couple moved from Long Island in NY to Broward County.

The former student who opened fire Wednesday with an AR-15 rifle was charged Thursday morning.

China asks United States to refrain from unfair trade measures
President Trump has until April to decide how to handle any changes to trade policy on imported steel and aluminum. Yet steel stocks rallied on expectations that more protection against import competition is on the way.

YouTuber Ben Bennight, who runs an account called Benthebondsman, said he received a comment on one of his videos from a user called Nikolas Cruz.

"He told me how he got kicked out of two private schools".

Cruz had indeed been treated for mental health issues in the past, but unlike Trump suggested, those who knew him had made efforts to help. She said Cruz had been abusive to his girlfriend.

Cruz was outside and inside the school at points during the attack, and taken into custody "without incident" about an hour after he left the school, officials said.

Scott said leaders will look at how they can make sure something like that never happens again.

Students wait to be picked up after a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018.

Florida's two USA senators, briefed by federal law enforcement officials, said the assailant wore a gas mask as he stalked into the school carrying a rifle, ammunition cartridges and smoke grenades, then pulled a fire alarm, prompting students and staff to pour from their classrooms into hallways.

Broward County Mayor Beam Furr told CNN: "We try to keep our eyes out on those kids who aren't connected". According to Everytown - an organization working to end gun violence - yesterday's attack marked the 18th school shooting in the United States this year. The 17 deaths have now eclipsed the 1999 Columbine massacre as the most deadly high school shooting in USA history.

The injured were taken to two hospitals where at least three of them were critical and another three serious.
