Entering Saturday, 3.5 games seperated the third seed in the East from the eighth.
Fultz was the No. 1 pick in last year's National Basketball Association draft and was expected to be a key contributor this season before the shoulder issues sidelined him. Fultz spoke for the first time since his media blackout started in October.
Late in the game, 76ers fans chanted, "We Want Fultz!".
But no. It was all for him.
The scrutiny surrounding his broken shot rattled the University of Washington star and he seemingly had been healthy enough to play - but his morale needed as much of a lift as his jumper.
The 2017 first overall pick played 14 minutes in his return, shooting 5-13 and finishing with 10 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds.
So, he played, played well but not ideal (one airball and three blocked shots), but most importantly-he survived.
While we may never know if Fultz was explicitly told not to talk about his shoulder by the team's coaching staff or front office, his decision to avoid questions with a smile on his face was fairly unsettling, even for a player who had just put on a show after six months away from the game. "I get goosebumps telling you all that". I am so proud of him....

Mr Strampel was accused also of grabbing two students' buttocks at the college's annual ball and a scholarship dinner. As well as being a dean, he was the lead medical director of MSU HealthTeam, according to the school's website .
People said that his shot was broken and the 76ers were simply sitting him to save face, that he would be a bust, and that his shot was broken beyond fix.
The rest of the team deserves plenty of credit as well for the comeback they had to mount.
Josh Jackson led the Suns with 23 points. They managed to extend their advantage to eight points by halftime and went into the locker room up 59-51.
"Then I realized it, and it was pretty dope".
The No. 1 pick of last year's draft will come off the bench Monday night for the 76ers, the team announced ahead of its home game against the Nuggets.
Fultz's prowess as a multi-dimensional guard was on full display, featuring not only his ability to get off his own shot both in traffic and from the mid-range, but also setting up his teammates on his way to eight assists despite limited game action. Reddick, Dario Šarić, and Robert Covington, just to name a few. Trey Burke led the Knicks with 42 points and 12 assists in the loss. Paul Milsap chipped in 16 points.
It was actually a bit of a surprise that Fultz was cleared to play in Monday night's game.
"He gives us another great pace", Philadelphia center Joel Embiid said.
"There needs to be an intelligent, realistic plan for him", Brown said of easing Fultz back into his team's rotation. They won 48 games in 2002-03 and last hit the 50 mark (56) in their run to the NBA Finals in 2000-01.
