Fired VA Secretary: I Was Pushed Out for Opposing Privatization

Since then, senators have pushed the agency for a timeline for the EHR project and for plans to ensure that the technology systems of the VA and DoD will be integrated.

President Trump announced the news via Twitter, stating he "intend [s] to nominate highly respected Admiral Ronny L. Jackson, MD, as the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs", and that Robert Wilkie, an undersecretary at the U.S. Department of Defense, will assume the role of acting secretary.

The spotlight last landed on Jackson when he fielded questions from reporters at the White House on Trump's physical in January.

"We are going to have real choice". Running this department is a massive management task. He was previously appointed by Obama as undersecretary for health at the VA in July of 2015.

A spokesperson for the former president declined to comment on Trump's decision to nominate Jackson. "The president has said many times before he's always looking to create a level playing field for all businesses, and this is no different".

Back in June, Trump said that he would "never have to use" his famous Apprentice catchphrase, "You're fired", on David Shulkin. He said other Members of Congress have asked him about the process to open his office so that they can replicate the service for veterans at their local VA facilities.

The Times reports attorney John Dowd, who resigned from Trump's legal team last week, raised the issue in conversations with lawyers for Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort while the special counsel was building cases against them a year ago.

Dr. Ronny Jackson has served as a White House physician for the past three administrations. "I'll be frank with you, the odds are not with him".

"We think Dr. Jackson will make a tremendous Secretary of Veterans Affairs".

La procuraduría de París dijo que la investigación quedó a cargo de la división antiterrorista, sin explicar los motivos. También se hallaron una pistola calibre 7.65 y un cuchillo de caza, de acuerdo con reportes de la policía local.

Will Fischer at the left-leaning political action committee VoteVets wonders if Jackson's glowing portrayal of the president's health got him the job.

Jones emphasized that Jackson should understand that the American Legion is strongly opposed to privatization.

In his essay, Shulkin said it has been his "greatest professional honor" to help lead the agency, citing the accomplishments made during his tenure including a new G.I. Bill, reducing wait times at VA hospitals and providing more mental health services for veterans suffering from the effects of war.

The ouster of Shulkin comes as the VA is finalizing its negotiations with Cerner to award the vendor a $10 billion EHR modernization contract-effectively leaving the acquisition in limbo. Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to expound on Cobb's statement during the White House briefing.

"I was not allowed to put up an official statement or to even respond to this by the White House", he said in the NPR interview.

"They saw me as an obstacle to privatization who had to be removed", Shulkin wrote.

"We were hoping that we prevailed, but at least he isn't appointing one of those rabid privatization people, so that's a plus", he said.

"Over the coming weeks, I will carefully review Dr. Jackson's qualifications to determine whether he has the best interests of our veterans at heart or whether he, like many in the Trump administration, wants to push VA down the risky path of privatization".

VA is now working to build a contract with Cerner that encourages the use of application programming interfaces (APIs) and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards to enable interoperability with the private sector. Trump's unexpected pick is the latest example of the president's reliance on familiar faces.
