PM Modi holds "wonderful meeting" with German Chancellor Angela Merkel

It was the third and last leg of Modi's three-nation tour to the UK, Sweden and Germany. He was received at the airport by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. "We discussed multiple aspects relating to India-Germany cooperation as well as other global issues", Modi said in a tweet.

Prime Minister Modi was in the United Kingdom from April 17 to 20 where he attended Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London and also conducted bilateral meetings with leaders from Commonwealth nations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel at German Chancellery in Berlin on Friday in what will be the first meeting between the two leaders after the latter began her fourth term on March 14 this year.

He said that the visit maintains "the momentum of regular high-level dialogue" adding that the visit "demonstrates our mutual desire to strengthen our strategic partnership".

German politicians have desperately been trying to push forward the potential talks on economic ties, after the country's president Frank-Walter Steinmeier's trip to India last month.

Worth mentioning here Germany is India's biggest trade partner in the European Union coalition.

In London, where Modi spent almost three days, the prime minister addressed the Indian diaspora, but the bulk of his trip to Britain was spent finalizing trade deals worth $1.3 billion.
