Childress began his National Football League coaching career with the Eagles as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator, helping guide the team to three straight trips to the NFC Championship and a Super Bowl XXXIX appearance.

The former NFL quarterback will be the offensive coordinator for head coach Brad Childress with the Atlanta franchise in the new Alliance of American Football.

Atlanta is the second city of eight for the new league, which announced earlier this month that Steve Spurrier would coach the team in Orlando, Fla.

Childress will coach the Atlanta franchise, which plays its games at Turner Field. The former Vikings head coach was hired to help coach Matt Nagy, his pupil with the Chiefs, teach the Bears their new offense.

In two seasons of playing at Virginia Tech, Vick amassed 3,279 yards and 21 touchdowns passing, while having 1,216 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.

Yesterday's protest was dubbed "Friday of Kites", with protests flying messages to Israel on the border. An Israeli military spokeswoman would not comment on whether an investigation had been opened.

"I have a love and passion for teaching the game of football", Vick said.

Vick tweeted about the announcement, posing with a helmet from the new team.

Charlie Ebersol, the son of longtime network executive Dick Ebersol, unveiled the Alliance of American Football in March.

"I saw first-hand his innate ability to bring out the best in those around him, and I'm confident that together we're going to build something special for the city of Atlanta". But prior to the 2007 campaign, Vick was prosecuted for his involvement in a dog-fighting ring and sentenced to 23 months in prison.

"There is a tremendous amount of players and coaches who deserve a chance to compete at a professional level, but only a limited and finite amount of roster spots and positions in the sport today", Childress said. But he's only been a head coach at one stop: From 2006 through most of 2010 with the Vikings. Most recently, Childress was an offensive analyst for the Chicago Bears. Polamalu will be the league's head of player relations.
