First lady visits migrant children housed in Texas

Melania Trump was among the first ladies who condemned the practice last week, and today she made her way to a shelter in McAllen, Texas, to meet with the displaced children and social workers who are tasked with their care.

In a dramatic about face, the Trump administration will stop prosecuting migrant parents who cross the border illegally with children, a new report said Thursday.

Both House Bills, which Democrats and immigration advocacy groups oppose, would fund Mr. Trump's proposed wall and reduce legal migration, in part by denying visas for some relatives of US residents and citizens living overseas.

The surprise trip "was 100 percent her idea", Melania Trump's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told reporters travelling with her to Texas. "Congress must now act + find a lasting solution that is consistent with our shared values;the same values that so many come here seeking as they endeavor to create a better life for their families", she said.

Mrs Trump sat alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar at a table at Upbring New Hope Children's Center and heard caregivers explain how the children are well treated.

She, along with first daughter Ivanka Trump, lobbied the president to reverse his administration's family separation policy, NPR reported on Wednesday. She said the executive order is a small step in the right direction but a lot of work is needed.

First lady Melania Trump visits McAllen amid crisis over family separation

In fact, airlines operating in America, including United and Frontier airlines, have protested against the Trump administration's family separation policy by deciding not to fly the separated immigrant children at the border. She told the children to "be kind and nice to each other".

Trump, a frequent viewer of cable television newscasts, had recognized the family separation issue was a growing political problem, White House sources said.

"We need legislation that will resolve this", said Garcetti. At the same time we have compassion.

"This Executive Order doesn't fix the crisis".

Despite Trump's executive order, a host of unanswered questions remain, including what will happens to the children who were already separated from their parents and where the government will house all the newly detained migrants, with the system already bursting at the seams.

Around 2,300 children were forcibly separated from their parents, who illegally crossed the southern border. "We have zero tolerance for people that enter our country illegally".
