Family sources confirmed to TMZ that Joe Jackson died at 3:30 a.m.

"We are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the death, but there is no reason to believe it's anything other than a natural death", the coroner said.

Jackson's grandson, Randy Jackson Jr., shared the news of the passing of his grandfather via Twitter.

"He didn't choose the path that was the easiest but he choose the path that was best for his family", wrote the 21-year-old.

A Jackson family source told ET that he was in a Las Vegas hospital with terminal cancer.

Janet spoke warmly of her father on June 22.

"My mother nourished me with the most extravagant love imaginable". "My father, my incredible father drove me to be the best I can. My siblings set an incredibly high standard for artistic excellence", she said, according to the Post.

"I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see", the caption on the photo read. "With Janet, both he and Katharine spent a great deal of time on the "Fame" set with us and what struck me was the love and pride they had in all of their kids, but particularly Michael and Janet".

Jackson was born in Fountain Hill, Arkansas, in 1928. He was working as a crane operator at a steel plant in Gary, Indiana, when he took note of the musical talents of his sons.

"He's very, very fail, he doesn't have long", son Jermaine Jackson told the outlet.

Joe Jackson eventually moved the family from Gary to a mansion in Encino, California. You taught me to take pride in the Jackson name and what it really means, you taught me dedication in the face of adversity and most of all you showed me strength and fearlessness.

"Papa Joe", as he would become known, ruled through his stern, intimidating and unflinching presence, which became so indelible it was part of black popular culture, even referenced in song and on TV.

"He was inducted into Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2014 and his son Michael acknowledged him with a Joe Jackson Day at Neverland".

"If you messed up during rehearsal, you got hit", Michael was quoted as saying in J Randy Taraborrelli's biography. "My father was real strict with us - real strict". I don't know him the way I'd like to know him.

But the Jackson siblings didn't all agree on the Joe-was-abusive narrative: Some said it happened, a few said it never occurred.

Branca and McClain also said they "developed a warm" relationship with Joe in recent years. However, during some of his son's most hard times, including his 2004 molestation trial, Joseph was by his side. He had 10 kids with Katherine, his wife of more than 60 years. His wife Katherine filed for divorce twice during their marriage but never went through with the separation. "They said they couldn't find me, but I was right there".

"We wouldn't want to be raised any other way, with the way he raised us", Jermaine said. "That's why we're together".

The couple presented a united front when Michael died in 2009 from an overdose of propofol.

He and Katherine had 10 children; nine survived to have recording careers starting with the Jackson 5, who became instant global pop sensations when they burst on the scene.
