Mosquito with West Nile virus found in Milwaukee


People who think they may have West Nile virus should see their health care provider.

"The recent rainfall and warm weather forecast for this weekend and beyond are expected to increase mosquito activity and build-up of West Nile virus".

Mosquitoes can be more than pesky insects.

"Larval surveillance and control have been done at both sites where infected adults were collected, and all subsequent adult samples have turned up negative for the presence of the Virus", stated a DEP news release provided by spokeswoman Megan Lehman.

VSU reports its findings to public works departments which determine where to spray based on the highest population centers for mosquitoes, said Anthony Musgrove, city public works operations superintendent. Mosquitoes become infected when they feed on infected birds.

The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program (MMP) announced that mosquitoes trapped in New Canaan on June 19 tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV).

State health officials are urging IN residents to take steps to protect themselves from mosquito bites as the state begins to see West Nile virus activity IN mosquitoes.
