Idris Elba Reportedly Back in the Running for James Bond Role

In a recent interview, Fuqua said that Brocoli believes "it is time" for a non-white actor to take over the role and that he is personally certain that it "will happen eventually".

The discussion over who could play the next James Bond could be nearing it's conclusion, as the biggest clue yet has been dropped over the next actor's identity.

"Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle is slated to direct the next James Bond film. In a story from the United Kingdom -based tabloid Daily Star, it was stated that Equalizer 2 director Antoine Fuqua told "an industry pal" about a conversation he'd had with longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli.

"Idris could do it if he was in shape", the director teased.

Once Daniel Craig parks his Aston Martin and sets down his martini glass for good, heartthrob Idris Elba could be the next leading man to take up the role of James Bond if the rumours are to be believed.

Idris Elba was a massive early favourite back in 2015, but his own denials and so much time passing had bumped him down the list. He would also be 47 when Bond 26, in theory, would begin filming. Elba's name first came up in 2014 during the Sony hack, when leaked emails from then studio co-chair Amy Pascal revealed Elba as everyone's favorite to replace Daniel Craig. It has now been reported that Luther and Star Trek: Beyond actor Idris Elba is in the running for the role.

There is no denying that Idris Elba isn't a brilliant actor and an incredible screen presence, and has all the tools to make an excellent James Bond.

He added: 'Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male?
