Woods throws charge into Bellerive with wild final-round 64

Justin Thomas gave it a good run, but a couple of stumbles late and a mistake-free finish by eventual victor Brooks Koepka left him settling for a sixth-place tie in his defense of the PGA Championship at Bellerive Golf Club in St. Louis.

"I played hard", Woods said after finishing his final round with a six-under 64 - his best final round at a major. "I knew this was going to be a struggle to try and piece together a round, and I did".

"What is important is how well Tiger has played", Furyk said.

The 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club might be one for the record books, at least according to players and even the President of PGA of America. I didn't have a golf swing.

"I didn't drive it good all day", Woods said. I didn't know when I was going to start and how many tournaments I was going to play, how well I was going to play.

Could Woods also help the USA team in its bid to retain the Ryder Cup for the first time since 1993?

"He's the guy who can just will himself to play good golf", Furyk told BBC Sport. I didn't realize Koepka was still sizzling about this until Sunday night in Shinnecock.

"There are more people here this week than I think I've ever seen at a major championship", said Koepka, the victor of the 100th PGA Championship. All but Spieth and Fowler have won this year. He missed the cut in his one appearance in 2014. Phil Mickelson, Tony Finau and Matt Kuchar are believed to be the names, for now, most prominent in Furyk's mind.

They do now, and Woods made it clear he wants to compete in his first Ryder Cup since 2012.

Players have the next several weeks to make an impression.

Cuando se le pregunta si alguna otra vez estuvo involucrado con la niña, da una respuesta que indigna: "Algunas pocas veces". Y de repente sucede esto, imprevistamente. "La fe es fundamental y rezando se resuelven los problemas" señaló.

Furyk will announce three of his picks on September 4, one day after the Dell Technologies Championship.

With Scott in trouble off the tee on the 18th, the trophy was definitely heading the American's way but Koepka demurred when it came to him taking the championship's final putt.

"We have some big tournaments coming home", Furyk said.

Whether you blame the PGA, Sky, or the regulators for trying to input some competition to Sky for the reason we had no TV coverage of the year's final major is irrelevant really.

"Really, what we wanted to talk about today was the top eight players", Furyk said in an attempt to steer questions away from his potential picks".

Furyk noted that the top eight already present him with some excellent pairings for the fourball and foursomes formats that are used during the first two days and account for 16 of the 28 points available.

The PGA Championship at Bellerive heralded some real game-changing events as we head towards the FedEx Cup playoffs, Ryder Cup, and to 2019. Watson and Simpson have been partners in both cups.

Barring a player getting hot and winning next week's North Trust at Ridgewood and the Dell Technologies outside of Boston, Bryson DeChambeau, who's No. 9 on the points list, and Kevin Kisner, who's 14th, should round out Furyk's four captain's picks.

Unlike years ago, Woods and Mickelson would be unlikely to play a couple of times a day, and it may come down to whether Furyk wants experience (Kuchar, Zach Johnson), new blood (Finau, Schauffele) or some combination. But Woods, already signed on to be an assistant captain, may need to expand his role.

"A lot of frustration, honestly", he said. "The beginning of the back nine, I could hear all the roars". "I mean, as they should". "He's probably the greatest player to ever play the game and to have the comeback that he's having is incredible".
