Wednesday was a big day for those who have been impatiently awaiting the arrival of Marvel's next film, Captain Marvel. I am happy to report it is finally here - our first look at Brie Larson as "Captain Marvel". The next entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe-and the only one standing between us and the Avengers: Infinity War sequel-is due out next year.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige has confirmed that they are now developing more female-led Marvel movies following Captain Marvel's release and are planning to announce the films in the near future.

With these comments and the images we have seen so far, I think it looks like they are going to do something different here. With Captain Marvel preceding Avengers 4, Carol will have an entire movie to establish her strength, even if she's not quite "godlike", as well as her flaws. As the movie is set in the 1990s, a younger version of the director of SHIELD will be introduced, long before he starts wearing his signature eye patch.

Also seen in the photos are the introduction of the Skrull alien race.

In addition to Larson as the titular character, there are the infamous shapeshifting villains called the Skrulls, led by Ben Mendelsohn's villainous Talos. And she's got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls - the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more risky by their shape-shifting abilities.

In the comics, Maria Rambeau (Lynch) has been a Captain Marvel herself. It's the thing that gets her in trouble, but it's also the thing that makes her great. But the actress, best known for her dramatic roles in festival hits like Short Term 12 and Room, nearly turned down joining the biggest franchise in the world.

Are you excited to see Jude Law make his MCU debut?

But before she enters the fray, she'll appear in her own film slated for March 8, 2019.
