Echoes of Anita Hill in #MeToo allegation against Kavanaugh

After initially guarding her anonymity, Ford "decided to take control of this and tell this in her own voice" after the allegations were leaked, Katz said. I am so proud of her that she finally made a decision to go public about her accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh that he sexually assaulted her. When I reached Dr. Loftus via email last night while she was traveling (and unable to make a comprehensive comment on the topic) she responded to my outlining of what might have happened in this situation by saying, "I think you have good analysis" here.

Kavanaugh went to the West Wing on Monday shortly after issuing a strongly worded statement denying the woman's allegation and stressing his willingness to go before the Senate Judiciary Committee to "refute" it.

Republicans had also displayed no willingness to delay a Judiciary panel vote that Grassley had planned for this Thursday to advance the nomination.

All 10 Democrats on the committee on Monday urged Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, to postpone the vote.

Trump says he wants a "full process" to investigate the allegations. "Around the same time", the Post said, Ford contacted her member of Congress, California Democratic Rep. Anna Eshoo.

Ford came forward as the author of the letter in an interview with the Washington Post published Sunday after details of her allegations were reported elsewhere. Dianne Feinstein via a letter through Eshoo's office.

Ford says a drunken Kavanaugh forced himself on her, tried to remove her clothing and put his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream.

The GOP's announcement of a September 24 hearing follows a daylong scramble in Washington to assess Kavanaugh's prospects after Ford revealed her identity to The Washington Post.

The Judicial Crisis Network, a conservative group that has been a major proponent of Republican nominees to the high court, said on Monday that it would launch a $1.5 million advertising blitz to support him, featuring a longtime friend of the federal judge who would speak to his character.

Mrs Katz told NBC's Today: "She believes that if were not for the severe intoxication of Brett Kavanaugh, she would have been raped".

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway says a woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were in high school "should testify under oath and she should do it on Capitol Hill". Kavanaugh was attending Georgetown Preparatory School, a private school in North Bethesda, Md., at the time.

Kavanaugh was at the White House on Monday morning, but according to a senior official, he did not meet with Trump. On it, Trump can be heard boasting of grabbing women by their genitals and kissing them without permission. Without providing any justification aside from his faith in Kavanaugh, he has declared that Ford is not telling the truth about her accusations. Conway, though, noted that Ford's account, while it should be considered, should also be "weighed against" other evidence.

Nearly a quarter - 23% - didn't know whether the Senate should vote to confirm Kavanaugh, slightly fewer than "didn't know" about Thomas in July (pre-Hill accusations) - 31%. The accusations have thrown the timeline into doubt, however. Many Democrats have called for a delay in the vote, and a handful of Republicans have opened the door to that possibility.

She also denied that Dr Ford, a Democrat, is politically motivated.

A vote in Judiciary Committee is slated for Thursday, but several GOP senators, including Arizona's Jeff Flake, have said that the committee should hear from Ford before they move forward on Kavanaugh's nomination. Ford didn't go to the same high school (Georgetown Visitation) as the other two women, but she was loosely in the same social circle and attended some of their gatherings.

"This is a completely false allegation", Kavanaugh said in a statement Monday morning.

"She should testify under oath". Ben Cardin said in an interview.
