Broadcaster SBS and production partner Blink TV are testing a new initiative that has been tried out overseas, where rather than make the choice internally, the public will help choose the final artist and song as Australia's entry for Tel Aviv in May 2019.

"SBS has been the Australian home of the Eurovision Song Contest for 35 years and 2019 will mark Australia's fifth year of competing in the event".

Meanwhile, Australia's head of delegation for Eurovision, Paul Clarke, expressed the benefits of the new strategy.

The Australia Decides event will be held on the Gold Coast on February 8 and 9, with the support of the Queensland Government via the Tourism and Events Queensland body and the City of Gold Coast.

Bulgaria leaves the Eurovision Song Contest on the top.

"This will be the first time our huge fan base will be able to see a live Eurovision show in an Australian venue - the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre - as well as live on SBS".

The contest will be hosted by our current Eurovision hosts, Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst.

Speaking to SBS on Sunday, the 28-year-old Take Me Out host said: 'I can't wait to be part of the first ever Eurovision selection show in the Southern Hemisphere and find the next Aussie classic. Can we back it up with another worldwide smash hit?

The Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast on SBS in May 2019, and will be hosted again by Warhurst and Creasey.

It is not known which artists will take part, as SBS is calling on songwriters across Australia, of all ages and at all stages in their careers, to submit an original composition for consideration.
