Reported twist in Tottenham Hotspur’s Nathan Ake chase

Both Manchester United and Tottenham are scouring the market for new defenders and Ake has emerged as a potential summer target.

After selling the Dutch defender to Bournemouth in a £20 million deal, the two clubs agreed that Chelsea would get first refusal for a fee in the region of £40 million.

Ake is, however, paying little attention to the transfer talk surrounding him heading towards January, with a long-term contract penned at Bournemouth following a permanent move to the Cherries in 2017.

The Telegraph add that Ake has to agree to re-join his old side.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are interested in signing Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, according to The Telegraph, but Chelsea could make it tough for their Premier League rivals to secure the services of the 23-year-old defender.

However, speaking to Voetbal International after Netherlands 3-0 win over Germany, Ake responded, "Yes, I've also seen it pass by, but of course it's rumours".

"This does not say much about my status yet".

Gary Cahill is being tipped to leave west London after struggling to establish himself under Sarri while Andreas Christensen's future is also in doubt after falling out-of-favour this season so Chelsea could yet be tempted by the prospect of taking Ake back to the capital.

Chelsea return to action on Saturday afternoon, with the Blues facing United.
