The move represents the latest coup for DAZN, which only launched in the USA in September after announcing a landmark US$1 billion joint venture with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing in what was described as the biggest deal in the sport's history.

Rocky Fielding is the current WBA "regular" super middleweight world champion.

Lionel Messi, who earned $111 million a year ago, is likely to be his main competition for the highest-earning athlete title, but reports indicate that Alvarez could have earned upwards of $120 million for 2018 by the time of his debut fight with DAZN.

This month, Alvarez signed a 11-fight deal worth a guaranteed $365 million with the streaming service DAZN, a staggering agreement called "the highest paid guaranteed contract in sports history", by his promoter.

Alvarez will challenge Rocky Fielding on DAZN's platform on December 15 at Madison Square Garden.

Estoy muy bien gracias a Dios: José José por estado de salud
Así que, por favor, sepan que estoy muy bien, en mi casa, con Sarita , mi hija , con mis médicos, con mis medicinas y todos mis tratamientos.

"We have No. 1 and No. 2".

"It's very important for me to give the fans the biggest fights and the most important fights, and I promise you I will always do that". "Canelo fighting on DAZN, we believe that that will help us attract some of the other fighters, some of the other premier fighters".

Alvarez, 28, outpointed middleweight destroyer Gennady Golovkin in their September PPV rematch, which also marked his last bout with HBO after the premium cable network announced it was ceasing boxing coverage after 45 years. "By bringing Canelo's fights to DAZN, we will turn his pay-per-view success into a growth engine for subscribers - a truly transformational moment for our business and the entire industry". Under the five-year partnership, Golden Boy also will put on up to 10 fight nights per year that will stream live on DAZN beginning in early 2019. But the offer by DAZN was too good to pass up.

Alvarez said he has confidence DAZN will succeed.

Whilst Alvarez will still fight under the Golden Boy banner, his connection to DAZN could allow for fights with English fighters signed with Hearn. The streaming service, which costs $9.99 a month, is looking more and more like a must-have for combat sports fans. "John Skipper came, he wasn't playing games", Gomez said. "They are going to want to watch his fights and they're going to get to buy them for a lot less expensive than they did before".
