"It" director Andy Muschietti will helm Hollywood's version of the popular Japanese manga "Attack on Titan".

Kodansha and Warner Bros. have finalized a deal setting Muschietti as the director of the new live-action adaptation.

The new adaptation will be produced by David Heyman (Harry Potter), Masi Oka (Mega Man), and Barbara Muschietti (It), and if the new adaptation has as much success as Muschietti's previous work, then anime fans have no need to worry. The series has so far been collected into 26 volumes and has sold over 76 million copies, one of the best-selling manga series to date. The show now has 49 aired episodes and eight original video animations (OVA).

Attack on Titan is set in a future where humanity has walled itself off from the outside world to protect itself from giant creatures called Titans.

The heroes of the tale, at least in the early going, are Eren Yeager, his foster sister, Mikasa Ackerman, and their childhood friend Armin Arlert, who enlist in the armed forces after Eren's mother is one of those who falls victim to the Titans' appetites during the new breach. Along the way they uncover secrets that hint at the mystery behind how the enormous walls were made and where the titans actually come from. Based on the manga by Hajime Isayama, this adaption is the second live-action movie adaptation after Shinji Higuchi's two-part 2015 effort.
