Xherdan Shaqiri has been left out of Liverpool's travelling squad for Tuesday's (Nov 6) Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade, the Premier League club have announced. Kosovo is a former Serbian province and Serbia does not recognise its independence.

Liverpool playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri believes that he is not afforded enough respect as a player for his achievements with Bayern Munich.

An extension of a controversy that sparked up during the 2018 World Cup, when Shaqiri's Switzerland faced off against Serbia, tensions have been high surrounding the 27-year-old. During the summer's World Cup, Shaqiri looked to celebrate his own heritage by having the country's flag stitched onto the heel of his right boot when Switzerland were due to face Serbia.

While Irishman Kelleher appears to have the upper hand with him travelling to Serbia on Monday, Grabara has made one more appearance for the Liverpool Under 23s, playing five times so far this season.

Shaqiri has exerted his influence on the Liverpool FC team in recent weeks with an assist against Chelsea FC, Huddersfield Town and Red Star Belgrade to strike up an understanding with Salah.

He featured in Liverpool's International Champions Cup games against Manchester City and Manchester United - the latter of which he started at the 107,000 "Big House" stadium in MI as Liverpool won 4-1.

"Although we have no idea what would happen, we want to go there and be focused 100 percent on football and not have to think about anything else, that's all".

'We are keen to be respectful and keen to avoid any distractions that would take focus away from a 90-minute-plus contest that is important for football and only football. "So, for that reason, Shaq is not involved and he accepts and understands this", he added, BBC reported.

Jordan Henderson will also miss the match as he continues his recovery from a hamstring problem, but Naby Keita and Dejan Lovren return to the squad after injury.
