Mike Pompeo Warns Sanctions on Iran Will Be the ‘Toughest’ Ever

With new USA sanctions on Iran just hours away, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is warning that they'll really pack an economic punch.

"In a single move, the United States is dealing a critical blow to Iran's entrenchment in Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq and Yemen".

However, President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and John Bolton, the president's national security adviser, both have made public statements supporting overthrowing Iran's theocratic government.

"And we'll see what happens with Iran, but they're not doing very well, I can tell you".

US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the nuclear accord earlier this year, an agreement he called the "worst deal ever negotiated".

Trump said the deal, approved by predecessor Barack Obama, was weak and flawed in Iran's favour.

General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander-in-chief of Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, gave a speech vowing that Iran "can overcome this economic war and failure of the sanctions project is imminent".

The sanctions end all the economic benefits America granted Tehran for its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. They are reported to include USA allies India, Italy, Japan and South Korea. "We are in the economic war situation".

The Trump administration though has granted exemptions to eight countries to continue importing Iranian oil, without naming them.

Mr Rouhani, meanwhile, pledged that Iran would overcome the sanctions.

Iran's biggest oil customers - all in Asia - have been seeking waivers to sanctions to allow them to continue buying some of the Islamic Republic's oil.

The secretary of state dismissed suggestions from experts, cited by the Fox New interviewer, that India and China will never stop buying oil from Iran.

Another demonstrator Sunday, Jamshid Zarei, waved a banner in English quoting Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei saying: "America can't do a damn thing". "The objective of this secretive communication is to give the impression of Iran's willingness to compromise and thus prevent the further deterioration of the relationship with the United States lest the Iran hawks in Washington push for military action".

Crude oil markets topped out with WTI reaching 75.00 per barrel only a month ago, but a crushing wave of crude production is threatening global oil markets' two-year bullish extension. The government sources said the finance ministry has given its nod to Iranian bank Pasargad to set up a branch in Mumbai, which will also help India to continue its oil supplies with Iran and make payment from the country.
