It may be because Amazon felt the need to compete with big box stores who are also offered free shipping promotions. The online retailer announced that starting today, November 5, all US-based Amazon customers can get free shipping with no minimum purchase amount.
Amazon also said that Amazon Prime members will be able to enjoy free same-day delivery.

To get customers in the mood, it will also be offering a limited selection of deals in stores and online on November 1. But Kohl has made a decision to generate a massive deal regardless of other retailers who don't think that way.

The offer covers every product category, and although no end date is listed in the Amazon press release, orders arriving in time for Christmas suggests it will end around December 22 just like Target's offer does. The spokeswoman said the company expects to announce that cutoff date later, after assessing customer demand and its logistics network. Amazon is making more than three million items eligible for same-day delivery for the holidays.
