Malibu Under Evacuation Orders as Massive Fire Rages

Strong blustery winds combined with dry conditions have helped the blaze spread, after weeks without rain and low humidity at the height of the wildfire season in north California.

Malibu has about 13,000 residents and lies along 21 miles (34km) of coast at the southern foot of the mountain range.

A strike team of five fire engines and a battalion chief was sent at about 4 p.m., said Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Jack Crabtree.

The Woolsey Fire broke out Thursday afternoon, forcing the evacuation of 75,000 homes in the area, and continued to burn Friday near Simi Valley, about 15 miles northeast of Thousand Oaks.

The Camp Fire in Northern California exploded in size Thursday, burning about 20,000 acres and overtaking the town of Paradise, where around 30,000 people were forced to evacuate at the last minute. No injuries have been reported.

Fire officials say evacuations due to a raging Southern California wildfire are expected to reach about 148,000 and structural losses are expected to be significant.

A wildfire that moved so fast that firefighters couldn't hope to stop it quadrupled in size Friday after destroying several thousand buildings and leveling much of a Northern California town of almost 30,000 people, authorities said. Los Angeles is prone to natural disasters as earthquakes are expected in the region, but with the drought this year and mighty fires, it's becoming even more unsafe to live in the area.

Caitlyn Jenner's Malibu home has reportedly burned down in the Woolsey Fire that is ravaging Los Angeles County. "I pray everyone is safe", she on wrote Instagram along with thanks for the responding firefighters and requests for prayers for Calabasas.

Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian also evacuated their homes in Calabasas on Thursday night as the fires grew out of control just hours after igniting.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were located in vehicles that were overcome by the Camp Fire", said a statement, adding that they had yet to be identified.

Both fires are zero percent contained as of 11am on Friday, and dozens of communities on the border of Ventura and Los Angeles counties have been ordered to evacuate as the flames approach.

"My hometown of Paradise is on fire".

The Hill Fire is another battle firefighters in Ventura County are contending with. One evacuation center was even forced to close down as the flames spread.

"Please, please, please if you are asked to voluntarily leave the area, please do", Ventura County fire Capt. Scott Dettore told CNN affiliate KTLA on Friday morning.
