Bengals announce Hue Jackson as special assistant to the head coach

Former Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson is returning to the Bengals coaching staff this week for a third stint in Cincinnati, having been named special assistant to the head coach.

Prior to taking the Browns' job, though, Jackson had worked several jobs for the Bengals' organization under Marvin Lewis. Jackson's title and role is not yet known Rapoport said. When asked Monday how he would handle the additional duties, Lewis smiled and said, "I've got a plan".

Jackson was the Bengals" wide receivers coach from 2004 to "06, secondary assistant and special-teams coach in 2012, running backs coach in 2013 and offensive coordinator from 2014 to '15.

If there is one thing that Hue Jackson can do, it's coach a game that ends with the Cleveland Browns losing.

During Jackson's two years as the Bengals' offensive coordinator, Dalton had his most efficient years as a passer.

"Watch and see", Lewis said. During his two and a half seasons as their head coach, Jackson orchestrated just three wins and had 36 losses and a tie.

Jackson was sacked as head coach of the Browns earlier this season, ending an ignominious tenure that saw the team compile a record of 3-36-1 in Jackson's 40 games in charge.

The length and details of Jackson's contract in Cincinnati have not been disclosed.
