Kessinger said she started seeing the signs on August 13, when Watts texted her saying his family, wife Shan'aan and children Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, was "gone".

The girlfriend of a Colorado man who pleaded guilty to killing his pregnant wife and two young daughters has spoken publicly about the affair for the first time.

Kessinger contacted authorities the next day - August 15 - and told investigators about her relationship with Watts and the lies that he had told her.

She told the newspaper that when she met Watts at Anadarko Petroleum, where they both worked, she noticed he wasn't wearing a wedding ring. "It got to a point that he was telling me so many lies that I eventually told him that I did not want to speak to him again until his family was found".

It wasn't until Watts family disappeared that she quickly realized he had been lying, she told the newspaper.

The report says she found out when his wife and two daughters went missing in August from their home in Frederick that he never started divorce proceedings with his wife.

When Nichol Kessinger met Chris Watts through work, she believed he was a single man.

Kessinger came forward after much speculation about her identity.

During their relationship that lasted a couple of months, Chris also made her believe that he was looking to find an apartment for himself and his girls, and Nichol urged that they take things slow as the two saw each other four of five times a week.

Kessinger said she didn't know that her lover was still married until his family was reported missing on the news.

"When I read the news, I found out he was still married and his wife was 15 weeks pregnant", Kessinger said.

According to Kessinger, she barraged Watts with questions and he didn't show any emotion during their conversations and tried to change the subject away from his missing family.

Kessinger told the Denver Post that she believes that her former over killed his family.

"He's a liar", she told the Post. "He lied about everything".

The girls' bodies were found submerged in an oil tank, and Shanann Watts' body was found in a shallow grave. That's when her concern turned into fear for his missing family.

"I was very confused why the media was at his house", Kessinger said. But he told police that he strangled her in "a rage" when he discovered she had strangled their two daughters after he sought a separation.
