The Washington Redskins lost more than just a football game on Sunday, they lost their starting quarterback for the entire season after Alex Smith suffered two broken bones in his right leg in the third quarter of Sunday's 23-21 loss.

Surgery is coming. In fact, he was reportedly already taken to the hospital.

Former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann tweeted about the injury, too. The only three-time Defensive Player of the Year Lawrence Taylor was involved in the injury, which occurred around the 40-yard line. Theismann's injury ended his career, though given advances in surgical procedures and medicine, it is possible he could have returned if the injury happened today.
