Netflix Cancels Marvel's 'Daredevil' After Three Seasons

The show suffers the same fate as both Iron Fist and Luke Cage, which were both axed just last month. Being part of the first wave of Netflix original series, all Marvel series have produced 13-episode seasons.

Marvel's Daredevil three seasons can be streamed on Netflix.

In a statement shared with Deadline, the streaming service said: "Marvel's Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix".

'We are tremendously proud of the show's last and final season and although it's painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note'. As a result of these and other squabbles, the collaborative relationship between Netflix and Marvel has apparently eroded quite far.

Daredevil's three seasons will stay on Netflix "for years to come", Netflix said, adding that you can expect to see Daredevil the character in "future projects" from Marvel.

The next seasons of Daredevil, The Punisher and Jessica Jones were still official in development until Netflix opted to cancel the Charlie Cox led series. This appears to be the latest step Netflix is taking in preparation of the inevitable war that will happen when Marvel owner Disney launches its own rival streaming service next year. Then surprising most, Luke Cage was cancelled even though almost half of the scripts had been written for a third season.

Those disappointed by the cancelation of Luke Cage and Iron Fist-some people might have liked it-in October still had Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and The Punisher to satisfy their cravings for all things Marvel. Among them is a Loki series, a show following Falcon and Winter Soldier, as well as Scarlet Witch series also starring Vision. Since Netflix does not release viewership numbers, it's impossible to know just how popular these shows actually were with Marvel fans and if those numbers factored into the decision.

The show that kicked off Marvel and Netflix's ambitious series of interconnected superhero shows has come to an untimely end.
