A six-time All-Star at 31, Goldschmidt was among the top players available in the trade market.

The Cardinals sent catcher Carson Kelly, right-hander Luke Weaver, minor league infielder Andy Young and the Cardinals' Compensation Round B selection in the 2019 Major League Baseball amateur draft to Arizona. In his eight-year career, the right-handed hitter has batted.270/.387/.479 with eight home runs in 44 games against them. Goldschmidt has a $14.5 million salary next year, receives a $1 million assignment bonus for the trade and will be eligible for free agency after next season.

The Cardinals will introduce Goldschmidt at a news conference Friday in St. Louis.
