Earlier this week the Academy revealed Hart would host the Oscars. And that leaves only one logical choice to replace him.

Hosting the Academy Awards - known as the "most thankless job in town" - has become a challenge in the past couple years as the show faces declining ratings.

The last Australian to host the Oscars was Hugh Jackman in 2009.

The internet certainly thinks the Flyers' lovable - and definitely not scary -mascot should host.

"Hart's apology to LGBTQ people is an important step forward, but he missed a real opportunity to use his platform and the Oscars stage to build unity and awareness", said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.

In a video on Instagram, Hart said the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences gave him an ultimatum: apologise or "we're going to have to move on and find another host".

Just two days after being named host of the Academy Awards, Kevin Hart stepped down following an outcry over past homophobic tweets by the comedian.

As Deadpool says: "I'm not sure this level of curiosity is cute from a middle-aged man strapped to a bed against his will". The answer is pretty obvious, and thankfully, Deadpool himself is here to tell it like it is.

Hart initially failed to issue an apology, insisting he had addressed the situation "several times" already. I have nothing against gay people, be happy.

In an earlier post Thursday, Hart wrote on Instagram that critics should "stop being negative" about his earlier anti-gay remarks.

He also wrote, "All I can say is WOOOOOOOOW.Thank you so much Sydney Australia.Making the world laugh is forever a priority".

"I'm nearly 40 years old". If you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don't know what to tell you.

Hart's attitudes about homosexuality were also a well-known part of his stand-up act.

In the clip, obtained by TMX, the actor replied that he is aware of the harm his words can inflict on gay people and said: 'I don't want that problem. On Thursday, Buzzfeed reported that Hart had begun deleting some of his more offensive tweets, including this one from 2011: "Yo if my son comes home & try's 2 play with my daughters doll house I'm going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice 'stop that's gay'".

Terry Crews, who described Hart as a "brother", said he respected Hart's decision to walk away from the show. "I think we love to make big deals out of things that aren't necessarily big deals, because we can". I've said where the rights and wrongs were.
