Aquaman Crosses the $1 Billion Mark at the Box Office


The film's global earnings now stand at $1.02 billion, Box Office Mojo reports, as it earned another $17.26 million domestically and $27.9 million internationally over the weekend. As of this weekend, he's King of the Box Office, as his feature film crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, the first DC Extended Universe feature to hit that milestone.

While Aquaman is the first movie from the unofficially named-DC Extended Universe to earn a billion dollars, it's not the first-ever film from DC Comics to do so. Furious 7, which he also directed, made over $1.5 billion back in 2015.

In the US, "Aquaman" only had a 23.2% drop in box office earnings on its second weekend, and while it may have dropped from 4,184 theatres to 3,863 theatres on its fourth weekend, it's still performing extremely well and will likely continue to do so.

Director James Wan responded to the news of Aquaman passing $1 billion, thanking the cast and crew of the film for the incredible achievement.

Aquaman the fifth movie released in 2018 to pass $1 billion at the global office; the others were Avengers: Infinity War ($2.045 billion), Black Panther ($1.346 billion), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($1.309 billion), and Incredibles 2 ($1.242 billion).
