It's unclear if either of the two teens fired a gun, Bass said, but the documents say Crecencio-Gonzalez drove a getaway vehicle.

Authorities are searching for multiple suspects in a Utah mall shooting that injured two people.

Two people in their early 20s were shot at about 1.30pm (local time) near the southeast entrance to the Fashion Place mall in Murray in the USA state of Utah, a suburb south of Salt Lake City, said Murray Police Officer Kenny Bass.

According to FOX 13, shots were fired Sunday afternoon at the Fashion Place Mall in Murray, which is just outside of Salt Lake City.

The Salt Lake Tribune will update this developing story.

"We are very saddened by the incident that happened outside our shopping center this afternoon. The shopping center is now closed", the mall told Fox13.

Bass told Fox 13 that authorities were looking for three people who fled the mall in light-colored hoodies or sweatshirts and dark trousers. Any details about a potential connection between the victims and shooters was not immediately released Sunday. The male is in critical condition while the female is in serious condition, Bass said. He said the shooting may be gang related.

Mall officials and police said the shooting occurred on the east side of the mall.

"At this point, there are officers still looking for them", Bass told KSL.

Police placed the mall on lock down and escorted people out with their hands in the air.

Bass said everyone involved in the shooting was a member of one gang or another. "We were outside of the store for maybe a minute while people were leaving, and we heard what sounded like gunshots".

"People started running. Right in front of our store, I watched people get shot down", she said.

"There was a sense of panic", she said. "Women and children are getting trampled, especially little kids".

Murray is 6.6 miles (11 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City.

Loren Okuly, an individual outside of Dillard's during the incident, told KSL that he, "saw cops come in from everywhere".

Other details were not disclosed by officials.
