The show was picked up for brief stints on CBS (between 1997 and 1999) and Lifetime (between 2001 and 2002) before its eventual cancellation, with almost all of its episodes hosted by veteran character actor Robert Stack. The show's original creators are on board the revival as are the producers of Stranger Things.
The 12-part series will use reenactments in a documentary format to profile real-life mysteries and unsolved crimes, lost love, cases involving missing persons and unexplained paranormal events.

All told, 500 episodes of the original aired, first on NBC, then CBS picked it up after it was cancelled, according to Deadline. His resume included a wide array of projects, including a similar, earlier series, Most Wanted (1976-1977), Strike Force (1981-1982), the spoof film Airplane! in 1980, Falcon Crest (1987) and many more mini-series and TV series over his career. By the Spike era, Stack had died (2003), so Dennis Farina became host. Also in the mix is original production company Cosgrove-Muerer Productions, whose principals John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer will serve as showrunners.
