Donald Trump will meet Kim Jong Un for second time next month

The announcement came after Trump met top North Korean negotiator Kim Yong-chol at the White House on Friday, the BBC reported.

The meeting comes as a senior North Korean official earlier arrived in Washington D.C. for high-level talks with the U.S.

US President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un have agreed in principle to meet near the end of February, the White House announced Friday, Trend reported citing Sputnik. Communist-ruled Vietnam, which has good relations with both the United States and North Korea, has been widely touted as the most likely site.

The exact location and time is expected to be decided through more working-level talks in consideration of security concerns.

The talks with Kim Yong-chol at the White House focused on North Korean denuclearisation, spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said earlier.

Kim Yong-chol, regarded as a member of Kim Jong-un's inner circle, also had talks on Friday with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the U.S. special representative on North Korea, Stephen Biegun.

Pompeo, who traveled to North Korea four times a year ago to seek progress, later invited the visitors to lunch at their hotel after they returned from the White House.

The US and South Korea were discussing "corresponding measures" to reward North Korea's steps toward denuclearisation, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha told a news conference in Seoul this month, suggesting that details of a possible deal between Washington and Pyongyang were being worked out.

And Trump has exchanged multiple letters with Kim despite little tangible progress on a vague denuclearization agreement reached at their first meeting - last June in Singapore. His visit was historic in and of itself: Kim's stay in the Dupont Circle Hotel marks the first time in almost two decades, and one of the only times in history, a top North Korea official has stayed overnight in Washington. Yes, tensions have been dramatically reduced, and the North Koreans haven't tested nuclear weapons or missiles for over a year.

Speaking to reporters, she said: "We have continued to make progress, we're continuing to have conversations".

He also said the Moon administration will work closely with the USA while expanding inter-Korean dialogue, . on the back of a successful Kim-Trump summit.

The two leaders held their historic first summit in Singapore in June, following a series of diplomatic overtures by North Korea such as the release of three American prisoners.

Israel has been watching the American negotiations with North Korea very closely, because of the implications they carry for the USA standing vis-a-vis Iran.

Pompeo had planned to meet Kim Yong Chol to discuss a second summit last November, but the meeting was postponed at the last moment.

Pompeo and Kim Yong Chol did not respond to shouted questions as they posed for pictures before entering a meeting room at a hotel in Washington.

Seven months after Trump declared that the North Korean threat had been eliminated, the new missile review stated that Pyongyang "continues to pose an extraordinary threat and the USA must remain vigilant".

However Kim has yet to take what Washington sees as concrete steps in that direction.
