Trump Calls Off US Delegation's Trip to Davos Summit

The White House will not be sending a delegation to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum next week, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced Thursday night.

After the White House released a statement announcing the restriction - likely through the barring of Pelosi's use of military planes - journalists on Twitter began speculating whether Trump would take the same action for his Cabinet members.

President Donald Trump has canceled the US delegation's trip later this month to an economic forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The White House delegation, confirmed last Friday, included Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross among other top officials. While Trump attended previous year, former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama never went.

It estimated that a 1% wealth tax would be enough to educate 262 million out of school children and to save 3.3 million lives. Meanwhile, in 2018 alone, India's 119 billionaires saw their wealth mushrooming by Rs 2,200 crore a day on average.

The premier, who is travelling with Foreign Minister Riyad Malki and Minister of Economy Abeer Odeh, will be representing President Mahmoud Abbas at the annual world event.

Earlier on Thursday, the president also postponed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's planned trip to Belgium, Egypt and Afghanistan, citing the shutdown. The maneuver followed Pelosi's request that he delay the upcoming State of the Union address.

He said she could make the trip by taking a commercial flight, but the security implications of a senior politician heading to a war zone without suitable protection make that unthinkable.

After the news broke, a spokesperson from Pelosi's office, Drew Hammill, said the objective of the trip was to meet with allies and "express appreciation & thanks to our men & women in uniform for their service & dedication" - while noting there was no planned stop in Egypt.
